Text analysis

The students are beginning to analyze the poem and letter both titled "Dear Basketball" in preparation for writing their own original text. Here is a link to the Oscar winning short animation based on the poem.  Dear Basketball Here is a link to both texts  Dear Basketball The students will be looking at how to write with a unique voice, using techniques such as flashbacks and chronological order to organize their ideas, incorporating figurative language to create imagery and the effectiveness of a purposeful writing format/style.     There will also be a speaking and representation component to this project.  The work will be done in class, so step-by-step modeling and feedback can be provided.

Week 2

This week we worked on a few group work tasks to practice speaking, listening and working together.  The students also completed the Gates McGuinity reading/vocabulary standardized assessment.  Next week we will begin working on our first creative project that will include elements of reading, writing, representing and presenting.
