Final copy of poem/letter

The final copy of the poem is due Thursday, October 17th.  This can either be shared with me at lmbly@educbe.ca or printed and left on my desk. The next step of the project will be a visual representation of the poem.  The students have some creative freedom to create a drawing, iMovie, slideshow or any other media method to best represent the overall tone of the poem. The students need to be ready to share their poem and visual by Monday, October 21.

Text analysis

The students are beginning to analyze the poem and letter both titled "Dear Basketball" in preparation for writing their own original text. Here is a link to the Oscar winning short animation based on the poem.  Dear Basketball Here is a link to both texts  Dear Basketball The students will be looking at how to write with a unique voice, using techniques such as flashbacks and chronological order to organize their ideas, incorporating figurative language to create imagery and the effectiveness of a purposeful writing format/style.     There will also be a speaking and representation component to this project.  The work will be done in class, so step-by-step modeling and feedback can be provided.

Week 2

This week we worked on a few group work tasks to practice speaking, listening and working together.  The students also completed the Gates McGuinity reading/vocabulary standardized assessment.  Next week we will begin working on our first creative project that will include elements of reading, writing, representing and presenting.
